Manufacturing Process of Steel Balls
Material
Raw material is inspected for Physical & Chemicals properties. |
Heading
Heading machine cut wire into required length and form it into spherical shapes between dies.
Flashing
Headed blanks are roughly grounded between two grooved disks made of hard cast-iron. The equator of the headed blanks is removed. |
Heat treatment
Balls are quenched and tempered in the atmosphere-controlled furnace. It gives the balls sufficient hardness and other properties. |
Grinding
Balls are grounded to the approximate diameter of the final ball size by the grinding machines. |
Lapping
Balls are lapped for final parameters of size, sphericity, lot variation and to surface quality in lapping machines. This is the final process, and gets the balls within grade tolerance. |
Washing
In order to abrasives and residues of lapping on the finished ball surface, balls are washed in an especially designed washing machine. |
Final Inspection
During production, balls are inspected at every stage for fixed stage specifications, and the material is unloaded from the machines only on qualifying limits. For finished balls, parameters such as diameter, roundness, roughness, vibration, surface are thoroughly inspected to reinsure quality. Detailed inspection reports are made and filed. |
Packing
Rust Prevention Oil is applied on the balls or with VCI Paper inside the package. Balls are then packed in polythene bags, next in cardboard boxes then in plywood cases. Labels carrying details of sizes, quality, part no., etc. are properly pasted on the box. |
